Scar Camoflauge & Stretch Marks Removal

What is scar camouflage?

This is the placement of pigment beneath the epidermis of the skin in a scarred area to match the hypo pigmented (white) area to the surrounding skin. It is a form of cosmetic / paramedical tattooing or micropigmentation to help to camouflage scars, burns, birthmarks and other skin imperfections resulting from surgeries and injuries.

Our goal is to make your scar at least 80% less visible by minimizing the contrast of the scarred area, surgical scars and the surrounding skin. In other words, make them blend better. Micropigmentation can also be used to break up scar tissue, similar to micro-needling, and restore the flesh toned color for a more natural appearance.

Permanent cosmetics can disguise scars and discolorations from birthmarks, non-pigmented age spots, and cosmetic surgeries including face lifts and tummy tucks.

What is stretch mark removal?

Inkless stretch mark removal is also known as inkless stretch mark revision or ISR, dry tattooing, medical needling, etc. This is an inkless procedure (no pigment is deposited) whereby your stretchmarks’ appearance can be softened with this procedure to reduce contrast, colour and consistency.

Similar to microneedling, it works by creating controlled trauma to the area and applying a blend of serums to help the skin repair itself. The skin responds by producing collagen, elastin and melanocytes which in turn results in visibly smoother and firmer skin. This is one of the safest and most effective treatments for stretch marks on the market. The results of your ISMR treatment will vary based on your skin type, the depth/age of the stretch marks being treated and overall health. Typically clients see a 20-50 percent reduction in the appearance of stretch marks, with around half of these people requiring more than one treatment. This procedure does not prevent stretch marks, but rather treats existing ones, so if you are prone to them, they can come back.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know if I need scar camouflage or stretch mark revision?

These procedures can be interchanged and confused as they both camouflage imperfections. Scar camouflage uses pigment to do so and ISR does not (it uses vitamins, serums, and needling instead). Both work excellently when selected correctly. Generally, we would do a scar camouflage procedure for scars and ISR for stretch marks. However, some people opt for a camouflage (pigment) procedure on their stretch marks and this works really well too! Each case is different and your artist can help guide you.

My scar is darker than my skin, can you lighten in?

Scar camouflage only works for scars that are lighter than the surrounding skin but ISR could help for hyperpigmented (dark) scars.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the size of the area. It will be priced as either small, medium or large. You can find the most up to date pricing here and you can email a photo of the area to get a quote.

Will I need another appointment?

Yes. Both procedures generally require multiple sessions for optimal results.

For scar camouflage, the pigment is layered on translucently and slowly builds in color for the best match to the surrounding skin. Each session is charged individually (i.e. no touch ups included) because every person and every area requires a different number of sessions.

How many sessions required depened on a number of factors, such as how thick the scar is, how your body heals, lifestyle, etc. On average, it will take 2-3 sessions.

For ISR, typically clients see a 20-50 percent reduction in the appearance of stretch marks, with around half of these people requiring more than one treatment.

How long will it last?

Forever once healed!

Remember that scar camouflage this is essentially a tattoo and therefore sun will continue to fade it, so keep the area protected with SPF.

ISR: This procedure does not prevent stretch marks, but rather treats existing ones, so if you are prone to them, they can come back. Once treated, they will be significantly less visible however they can come back if the skin stretches significantly again.

Will I be able to go back to normal activity after this procedure?

There is no down time with this procedure and you should be able to resume your normal activities. However, there are a few restrictions: No vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours, avoiding sweating for a week, and no soaking the area in any bathtubs, swimming pools or jacuzzi’s for a least 7 days after.

What will my aftercare be like?

You will be given aftercare ointment and instructions. It is simply just applying the ointment daily and keeping the area clean.

How do you choose the color?

For scar camouflage, the expert will determine the color by swatching it on your skin before beginning. When the procedure is finished you will be amazed with the results! However, expect to be red, especially on incision scars.

Scar Camoflauge

Will it be painful?

Not really. For scar camouflage, usually there is no pain when working in a scar due to the thickness of the tissue and lack of nerve endings. It may begin to feel sensitive if it’s a large area. For ISR, you will feel tiny little needles. We work shallow so it’s not too painful.

How do I prepare?

Make sure you have read the pre and post care entirely.

The day of the procedure you will want to shower and make sure the area is clean. Wear loose fitting clothes where you will be tattooed.

Do I need a patch test?

It is recommended for medium to dark skin types and offered free of charge.

Do I need a patch test?

A patch test is recommended for those who are Fitzpatrick 3-6 in other words, you have medium to darker skin.

An inch of your stretch mark will be treated in a quick 15 minute appointment. Over the next few weeks you will have an opportunity to observe the healing process, results, and most importantly, determine if there is any hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) or hypopigmentation (skin lightening).
